Get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in Your Vehicle
Apple CarPlay was designed by Apple themselves, and is compatible with any iPhone 5 or newer. Likewise, Android Auto was designed by Google and can be used with any Android phone running 5.0 (Lollipop) and newer. Wondering how it’s possible to safely use your phone while you drive? The technology is complex, but the system is so simple to use. Everything is done through voice control so your eyes stay on the road and your hands stay on the wheel.
You’ll need a stereo in your vehicle that is built to work with CarPlay and Android Auto. At Sweet Sounds, we stock the Pioneer AVH-4201NEX and the Sony XAVAX100, and soon we’ll have the Alpine iLX-107. After the stereo is installed in your vehicle, you’ll download either of the free apps, depending on whether you use an iPhone or Android phone. Then, every time you get in your vehicle, your car will automatically recognize your phone and sync to your stereo. You can use the system through Bluetooth or by plugging your phone into the cable that we will install.

With CarPlay and Android Auto, you can use some of your favorite apps while driving. With voice control, you can command Siri or Google to make a phone call for you. The same system will also send text messages and read incoming messages to you. You can also find and play music that has been downloaded on your phone or play tunes through apps such as Pandora and Spotify.

I just paid a ton of money of money to have a Kenwood head unit with Android Auto in my car…. big mistake. I have over 100 gigs of music on my phone… there is no AA app that I can find that will let me borwse through my albums by genre, artist or album name. I deleted AA off my phone and went back to streaming bluetooth and sorting through my music on my phone. Sad that I have a touch screen head unit that cost me over $900 installed and I still need to have my phone mounted to my dash.

Thanks for the comments. You may want to check out Google Play music. While I haven’t used it personally from what I’ve seen the free version allows you to upload up to 50,000 of your own songs and access them through the app which is available on Android Auto.
Not that it will help you out this time, but we have a variety of Android Auto and Apple Car Play radios both in our display board and in demo vehicles which allows our clients to try them in person.
