Can you install modern Cicada Audio Pro Series speakers in an older Harley-Davidson? In many cases, absolutely.
We recently upgraded the front audio system in this 2001 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Standard with a set of Cicada CM65.2X Pro Mid-Bass speakers and matching Cicada RR075T ring-radiator tweeters. While Cicada doesn’t offer a vehicle-specific installation package for this generation of Harley, we were able to combine the proper components and installation techniques to integrate them cleanly into the factory-style fairing.
And the difference is substantial.

More Output Without the Harshness
This particular Harley has been through several audio upgrades with us over the past 10–15 years. Most recently, it was using Rockford Fosgate speakers in the front fairing.
The goal this time was simple: more usable output, stronger midrange presence and less harshness when the system is turned up.
The Cicada combination delivered exactly that.
The CM65.2X is a high-output 6.5-inch, 2-ohm Pro Series mid-bass speaker featuring a Carbon Matrix Composite cone, large 2-inch voice coil and neodymium motor. Its high efficiency makes it especially well suited to motorcycle audio, where the speakers need to remain clear and authoritative while competing with wind, road and exhaust noise.
For the upper frequencies, we paired them with Cicada RR075T 0.75-inch ring-radiator horn tweeters. These highly efficient tweeters provide the output and clarity needed on a motorcycle while maintaining a much cleaner presentation at higher listening levels.
Together, the combination gives this Harley a much stronger and more balanced front soundstage.

And We’re Still Using the Older Amplifier
One of the interesting things about this upgrade is that the bike is still powered by its older Rockford Fosgate TM400 amplifier.
We’re not even approaching the power-handling capability of the Cicada speakers, yet the increase in output and overall sound quality compared with the previous setup is immediately noticeable.
That also leaves room for additional upgrades in the future.
A Harley Audio System Built Over Time
This bike is a great example of how a motorcycle audio system can evolve over the years rather than needing to be replaced all at once.
The current system includes:
- Cicada CM65.2X Pro 6.5-inch mid-bass speakers
- Cicada RR075T ring-radiator tweeters
- Rockford Fosgate 6×9 rear speakers
- Rockford Fosgate TM400 amplifier
- PPI / Precision Power dual-woofer powered subwoofer installed in one saddlebag
- Rockford Fosgate source unit
The likely next step will be replacing the existing radio with the Soundstream WHD9813, bringing the bike up to date with a bright touchscreen display, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.
1998–2013 Harley-Davidson Audio Upgrades
Although the motorcycle shown here is a 2001 Electra Glide Standard, much of what we’re discussing applies to 1998–2013 Harley-Davidson Touring models, including Street Glide, Electra Glide and Road Glide applications.
These older Harleys remain extremely popular, and there is no reason their audio systems have to be stuck with technology from 20 years ago.
Depending on the motorcycle and existing equipment, we can upgrade everything from the radio and fairing speakers to amplifiers, saddlebag speakers, subwoofers and complete high-output audio systems.
And yes — Cicada Audio can absolutely be an option for these older bikes.
